Best of Prague

Best of Budapest

We only stayed visited Budapest for two days, but some of my favorite tour moments happened here.  Cooking school was a great change of pace from visiting the famous sites.  We were still experiencing the culture, but in a way we could take home with us!

The Széchenyi baths were a fun peek into Budapest life- I miss them now during the cold Michigan winter!  We had a great time enjoying the warm waters and the whirlpools.  I could get used to this Budapest traditon.

Matthias Church was my favorite place on the trip.  The painted interior was stunning, and I couldn't help but think of the people who spent their lives creating that beautiful place to worship.

This trip wouldn't have been the same without our guide Jana and the group we traveled with.  Hearing other perspectives and having a great time with new friends made the trip memorable.

Our first afternoon in Prague was spent trying to stay awake!  We sat in Old Town Square, people-watching and enjoying the architecture.  It felt like Europe to me, and during our stay, Old Town Square was our familiar, comfortable place to be.  Watching street performers, trying to guess the languages being spoken around you, feeding pigeons, relaxing on a bench, enjoying the food or exploring the shops and churches were all the best parts of enjoying Old Town Square.

Another highlight was the day of our tour focused on Communism.  Although this wasn't a highlight of Prague's history, listening to firsthand accounts from Jana and ÅœÃ¡rka  was.  Their willingness to share their personal stories brought the Communist Era to life.  Growing up away from Communism meant I didn't realize how recent that history is and how much it still affects people's lives today.  Learning history firsthand changes the way you understand it.
